Generally I’ve been pragmatic about elections, with the mindset that (like in 2006) I’d hold my nose and vote for the Republican candidate because ultimately it will work toward my conservative interests (Optimal Freedom Conservatism: markets open, private firearms ownership, strictly limited government interference/taxation, strong military to protect overseas commerce, secure borders, a right to life, death for proven murderers). I found that looking back on the work of the Congress, there was nothing for me to grab onto and say I was proud of. In fact, I questioned whether they did anything that made me glad I voted for them.
Unfortunately, I have a distaste for each of the remaining GOP Presidential candidates. I’m really not getting any satisfactory reason to vote for any of them. Particularly McCain. He’s courting democrat voters more than GOP! He relied on “independents” to vote for him, and you know what that means.
Michelle Malkin has a must-read about McCain’s (off-season campaign hq) Reform Institute’s ties to billionaire financier George Soros and left-wing groups like the Tides Foundation (link).
Add to that the fact that McCain and Hillary are chummy (link), and you’ve got a picture of what the campaign will look like. McCain’s a pleaser: he likes to please the media, and will give in to be popular. If he’s a “maverick” on freedom of speech, why wouldn’t we believe he’d become a maverick on gun control? I want my candidate to fight for our beliefs, not abandon them in exchange for comfort.

McCain-Feingold.
Need I say more???
The good news is, I’ll get to sleep in on Election Day 2008 because my ballot won’t have any conservative politicians to pick from.

Soros’ Open Society Institute bought McCain-Feingold too.

And when you wake up next year, turn in yoour fire-arms when a new Hillary-obama gun ban is signed…> In 1993, McCain voted against the b.s. Brady Bill, and the nuttie Assault/wpn-Magazine Ban, and in 2003, was there for us gun-owners, when the schummers/kennedys/fiensteins want it renewed.!…he held his ground against the emotional goop in 93, and 03!
If the dems take the oval office, they threaten us gun-owners with another ban, this one on steroids!…So stay in bed, and loose the 2nd Amendment!

A/G, first, thanks for stopping by. FYI, I didn’t say I was going to stay in bed. I’ll definitely be voting. Things have changed a little bit since the original post. I’m speaking for myself.
Overall, you’re right. Sleeping in on Election Day is at your own peril as a gun owner.
