Purification: Hope for the GOP

People like you and I don’t place “hope for change” in feel-good rhetoric, moreso in results. Here’s something that will give those of us interested in fiscally conservative government some “hope”. Change in action: (link)

Andy Harris Win in MD-01 is a Victory for Maryland Taxpayers

Washington – Tonight, the Club for Growth PAC’s endorsed candidate, State Senator Andy Harris, won the Republican primary in Maryland’s First Congressional District against incumbent Congressman Wayne Gilchrest.

Andy Harris campaigned on a message of economic conservatism, calling for lower taxes, an end to wasteful government spending, and greater economic freedom. With a solid victory over Wayne Gilchrest, it is clear that Harris’ strong record of standing up for taxpayers in Maryland’s State Legislature and his message on the campaign trail resonated with Republican voters. Voters refused to settle for pork barrel spending and higher taxes when they had a taxpayer hero like Andy Harris to vote for.

“We extend a hearty congratulations to Andy Harris and are confident he will win the general election in November,” said Club for Growth President Pat Toomey. “It is clear from tonight’s victory that voters want their representatives to stand up and fight for limited government and economic freedom. In Andy Harris, Maryland Republicans have found such a person.”

Kudos to MD State Senator Andy Harris, Pat “RINO-slayer” Toomey, and the Club for Growth on a hard-fought battle won.  I’ll put money in their coffers if it means keeping wanna-be Democrats from usurping GOP campaign cash.

For those of us in the GOP who feel like we’re on a conservative island wondering how liberal “independents” got more say in the GOP primary than conservatives in PA (our primary is April 22?!), this is a victory, and a reason to stay in the GOP and fight for sound fiscal policy.  If those “Rep Jeff Flake” House-members interested in fiscal discipline can get more support from the right folks, they’ll get more of a voice, which I believe is crucial to our nation’s survival.  I’ll be writing more about this subject, but I believe that a crisis is starting to show itself that is larger than most of us can comprehend.
