News Journal Political Correctness At Its Worst…

Today’s “GIN Feel-good story of the day” starts out on a happy note as you read of an armed robber receiving street highway justice by a Yukon on the interstate in his flight, but read the story carefully and you’ll also get your PC world “Blood Pressure Boiling Story of the Day” (link):

Delaware State Police say they have identified a 26-year-old robbery suspect who was killed crossing I-95 near Newark after the getaway car broke down while being followed by the victim of the crime.

Marckia Wilkerson, of Wilmington, was killed after being struck by an SUV while attempting to cross I-95 early Saturday morning.

Police say the incident started about 2:20 a.m. outside “The Social Club” at 30 Blue Hen Drive, near Newark.

Wilkerson allegedly approached a 26-year-old patron of the club in the parking lot and asked for some money, then pulled out a handgun and demanded he turn over all his cash. The victim complied and then ran, with Wilkerson firing the gun toward him, Sgt. Walter Newton said.

Wilkerson then got into a vehicle with a woman at the wheel and told her “to drive,” Newton said. Another man also was in the vehicle as it drove onto Del. 72 and headed for I-95.

Along the way, the vehicle struck a curb, blowing out one of the tires.

Meanwhile, Newton said the victim of the robbery was following the suspect in another car.

The Wilkerson’s vehicle pulled over in the northbound lanes of I-95 when it became disabled, with the three occupants running into tall grass along the highway.

The victim pulled up looking for them, but then drove off and called police when he couldn’t find them, Newton said.

The suspect and his two companions then crossed the northbound lanes and were crossing the southbound lanes when Wilkerson was struck by a southbound Chevrolet Tahoe. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

No charges were filed against the driver of the Tahoe, identified as Marcus A. Burch, 26, of Wilmington

Newton said no charges were filed against the other occupants of the getaway vehicle.

He said troopers found ammunition in the vehicle which matched shell casings found at the robbery scene.

Ok first, it would be nice for names that are unusual and spelled like Marcia if there’s clarification of some sort on gender.

But I don’t see why the paper that won’t identify the race of a suspect for some politically correct sensitivities wouldn’t apply some discretion to the name of the driver who struck him. His participation in the administration of justice for Mr. Wilkerson was coincidental, and if Mr. Wilkerson’s friends wanted revenge, what’s to stop them from running up I-95 a few miles and looking for him?

It may not be written, but I swear this newspaper’s motto is “Protect Criminals and Reject the Law-abiding”. By the way, it appears the suspect pointed a gun at a police officer and received a weak shot last year and failed to appear for his court date (link).
