Let’s be clear about one thing, the McCain-Kennedy bill is not about immigration reform, it’s a voter registration drive for Democrats (link). Once you give 12-20 million people (is there an accurate count?) legal status, they’ll demand voting rights. Nevermind all the people who’ve sacrificed so much to come here legally and play by the rules, that doesn’t matter. The rule of law does not matter.
I guess as perplexing as President Bush’s immigration stance is, it’s even worse that Presidential candidate John McCain would put his name on the bill. If McCain wins the R nomination, I really don’t know what I’ll do. We’re in some dangerous times as a party and a nation.
