Michelle Malkin (link) has allowed comment registration on her blog- very cool. She’s keeping an eye on the attempt revival of the Fairness Doctrine zombie (link), which was thought dead long ago. But like many zombies, it is rumored to be milling around looking for living things to destroy.
In short, the Fairness Doctrine would require broadcasters to broadcast liberal points of view. Because when government defines fairness, it’s not fairness to you or traditional points of view, it’s fairness to bureaucrats’ political allies.
It is a false argument to say that a government agency (headed by political appointees, run by bureaucrats) would be the arbiter of “fairness”. Bureaucracy begets bureaucracy. And you may be thinking, what about the Supreme Court, doesn’t SCOTUS fit that description? Nope, their job is to adjudicate what is legal based on the Constitution of the United States of America. It is not their job to ensure that the world is fair.
Also interesting is the shocking news (also posted by Mrs. Malkin and Drudge) that the newsmedia was found to donate to Democrats 9:1 over the GOP. (link) Do you think that the FCC would force the newsmedia to report counterpoints to the biased news reports they issue under a (drooling, bloodthirsty) new Fairness Doctrine?
